Russia and the United States have discussed progress on the Memorandum of Understanding on the Safety of Flight in Syria, Russian Defense Ministry's spokesman Igor Konashenkov said Sunday.

"A videoconference between representatives of the Russian and US defense ministries was convened to address a US request of June 18, 2016 on the Safety of Flight Memorandum of Understanding that was agreed on October 20, 2015," Maj. Gen. Konashenkov said, Sputnik reported.

Russia and US have been backing different sides in Syria’s complicated civil war since the beginning of the foreign-backed crisis in the country in March 2011.

More than 250,000 people have been killed so far in Syria due to the violence perpetrated by the terrorists.
