Turkey Threatens to Suspend Agreements with EU

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An adviser to Turkey's president said the Turkish government could suspend all agreements with the European Union if the 28-nation bloc continues to apply "double standards" toward his country.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's economy adviser, Yigit Bulut, told state-run TRT television Monday that Turkey could make "very radical decisions," including shelving a Customs Union agreement with the EU, if the bloc fails to "meet promises made to Turkish citizens," AP reported.

His comments, carried by Diken news portal and other media, come amid growing tensions with the EU over a deal to reduce the flow of illegal migrants.

The EU is also pressing Turkey to narrow its definition of terrorism.

Bulut said: "All sorts of agreements can be suspended, including the Customs Union agreement. All ties with the EU can be revised."
