About Five Tons of Russian-Syrian Aid Delivered to Syria's Homs Province

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Nearly five metric tons (5.5 US tons) of Russian-Syrian humanitarian aid supplies were delivered to the Qanayah settlement in the Syrian Homs province, regularly shelled by the Nusra Front militant group, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported on Monday from the scene.

Each resident has been given a humanitarian aid package that included canned fish, beef stew, as well as two kilos of rice, peas and beans. For local children, a separate gift set has been provided, it included waffles, as well as two kinds of candy and cookies.

During the war, people from nearby villages were forced to leave their homes, fleeing terrorists, and settle in Qanayah that was defended by the Syrian army and militia’s efforts.

However, the Syrian military note that even relatively safe Qanayah, which has become a haven for many refugees from the neighborhood, is subjected to attacks by terrorist groups, Sputnik News reported.

The Nusra Front has been designated as a terrorist organization by many countries and the United Nations. It has not been included in February ceasefire deal between the Syrian government and opposition groups.

Since 2011, Syria has been mired in a massive civil war, with Syrian army and allied forces fighting a number of militant groups and opposition factions.
