Turkey Terror Attacks Outcome of Ankara’s Mistakes: Iran’s Ex-Envoy

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s former ambassador to Ankara blamed a spate of terrorist attacks in Turkey over the past months on the wrong policies of the Turkish government, including its support for the “most savage” terrorists in recent history.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Firouz Dowlatabadi expressed the hope that Turkish citizens would no more fall victim to terrorist attacks and their politicians’ mistakes.

When the Ankara government gives support to the cruelest terrorists in recent history, it should expect the consequent troubles caused by the terrorist currents in a long process, he explained.

Another factor behind insecurity in Turkey is the government’s engagement in a civil war with part of the society for more than 30 years, Dowlatabadi added, referring to the conflicts between the Turkish government and Kurds.

The comments came after a car bomb attack in Ankara killed 37 people and wounded dozens of others on Sunday.

Turkish security officials say the attack involved two fighters -one female- from the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

The Sunday terrorist attack was the third in five months to hit Ankara.

Back on February 17, an attack in Ankara killed 29 people, mostly soldiers. The bomb had been packed with pellets and nails to cause maximum damage.

And earlier in October 2015, more than 100 people were killed in a double suicide bombing in Ankara that was blamed on the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group.
