Refugees Returning to Tent City on Greek-Macedonian Border

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Greek authorities said on Tuesday scores of refugees and migrants are returning to a waterlogged tent city on the country’s northern border with Macedonia, a day after over a thousand people made a mass crossing at an unguarded section of the border.

Police say fewer than 30 people were left Tuesday on the Greek side of the poorly marked border near the village of Hamilo, out of about 200 who had camped overnight, the Associated Press reported.

The others returned to a camp at the Idomeni crossing, where some 14,000 people have been stuck in dire conditions for more than two weeks, hoping Macedonia will allow them to continue north to Europe’s prosperous heartland.

At least 1,000 people entered Macedonia after fording a swollen stream Monday, and up to 700 were detained by Macedonian authorities.
