Moscow Blames UK for Spreading Misinformation on Russia's Role in Syria

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Moscow believes statements made by British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond on Russia and Iran's alleged interference in settling the Syrian crisis to be “a dangerous gambit”.

Other Media

Hammond earlier claimed Russia’s actions in Syria were strengthening the positions of the Daesh (ISIL), which is prohibited in numerous countries including Russia and the United States, because Russia says it wants to destroy the Daesh, but is not bombing the Daesh and bombing the "moderate opposition".

Zakharova said Hammond's commenets were “a dangerous gambit of misinformation,” Russia’s Govorit Moskva radio station quoted Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova as saying Tuesday, according to Sputnik News.

Moscow and Tehran say Syrian President Bashar al-Assad should be able to stand for re-election since it is for the Syrian people to decide on his future, while the West and its regional allies insist Assad should go.
