Indonesia Keen to Use Iran’s Expertise in Energy Industry
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of an Indonesian parliamentary delegation voiced the Southeast Asian country’s willingness to tap into Iran’s experience in the oil and gas industry.
Indonesia needs Iran’s experience in the construction of oil refineries, gas extraction platforms and dams, and hopes to clinch agreements with Tehran in these fields, Mustafa Ali Assegaf said Monday in a meeting with Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in Tehran.
Hailing Iran as a “major and influential” country in the Middle East, the visiting lawmaker said Jakarta is trying to expand trade ties with Tehran.
For his part, the Iranian speaker called for the enhancement of bilateral trade by facilitating the banking transactions.
He also emphasized that Iran and Indonesia should get acquainted with one another’s economic potentials.
Indonesia rejoined the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in a December session of the organization after a 7-year break.
Indonesia’s return to OPEC expanded the group’s members to 13 and will add about 900,000 bpd to OPEC output.
Back in November 2014, acting director general for oil and gas at Indonesia’s ministry of energy said Tehran plans to build oil refineries and supply crude oil to the Southeast Asian country.
“The Iranian government is looking for opportunities to develop refineries in Indonesia, where demand for oil is growing faster than the ability to secure hydrocarbons,” Naryanto Wagimin had announced.
