Beirut Blasts Crime against Humanity: Hezbollah
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The Lebanese Hezbollah Resistance Movement condemned Thursday’s deadly terrorist attacks in southern Beirut as a heinous crime against humanity, stressing that the fight against terrorism will go on vigorously.
The terrorist attacks were not crimes against a specific sect or party, but a crime against humanity, Hussein Khalil, an aide to Hezbollah Secretary General Seyed Hassan Nasrallah, said after visiting the site of blasts, according to Al-Ahed news website.
At least 43 people were killed and more than 200 others injured after two explosions struck the General Security Post in Hussaineya Street in Borj al-Barajneh neighborhood, southern Beirut, on Thursday.
The number of the dead is expected to rise as many of the wounded are in critical condition.
The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group released a statement, claiming responsibility for the bombings.
Elsewhere in his comments, Khalil said the attacks signify that the fight against terrorism is on the right track, vowing that such battle, which is expected to be long, will continue.
He likened the masterminds behind the blasts to savage groups that could not be categorized as human beings.
Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam has declared Friday as a day of national mourning and condemned the attacks as "unjustifiable." He further called for unity against "plans to create strife" in the country.
The deadly bombings in Beirut come against the backdrop of successful operations by the Lebanese army against terrorist groups, including al-Nusra Front and ISIL, in the town of Arsal bordering Syria.
Hezbollah has been also offering support to the Syrian government in the battle against the terrorist groups, which have suffered heavy defeats in different Syrian regions in recent weeks.
