Iranian Teachers Back Home after Released by UAE

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The nine Iranian teachers who were released in the United Arab Emirates after being detained over alleged visa issues have been reunited with their families, an official at the Iranian ministry of education said Saturday.

The detained teachers have been freed and reunited with their families thanks to the efforts made by Iran’s Education Ministry and Foreign Ministry, Rasool Papaee, the deputy chief of the ministry’s public relations office, told the Tasnim News Agency on Saturday.

He added that the teachers had appreciated the diplomatic efforts made by the foreign ministry for their freedom.

Papaee also said that the Iranian teachers have been released on bail and that their case will be studied later on.

Activities of Iranian schools in Al Ain have returned to normal, he added.

Earlier, Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular and Expatriates’ Affairs Hassan Qashqavi said the teachers have been freed by the Arab country’s officials.

9 Iranian teachers were arrested a week ago in the UAE for lacking work permits.

Media reports on Monday suggested that the teachers were having a "bad experience" in prison and had their heads shaved.

Iran on Sunday had summoned the charge d’affaires of the United Arab Emirates in Tehran to protest at the arrests.
