Hamas Leader Haniyeh Calls for 'Intifada to Continue'
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Deputy head of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, called for the "Intifada to continue" during a televised speech, as demonstrations continued in both the occupied West Bank and Gaza after weeks of unrest.
"The spirit of the Intifada and resistance must be deepened and this is our decision to continue the Intifada and resistance against the occupation, but it requires support by the nation in order to cut off all attempts to put it out," Haniyeh said on Friday.
"Despite the pain and sacrifices, we are hopeful that victory is close and that the occupation will end," Ma'an News Agency reported.
A day earlier, Haniyeh visited Palestinians at al-Shifa hospital who had been shot and injured by Israeli forces during recent clashes, issuing support to "Jerusalem's Intifada."
The senior Hamas official said last Saturday that a new Intifada had started following clashes on Gaza's border earlier that day, in which Israeli forces shot dead seven Palestinians and injured more than 145 others.
Two boys, aged 13 and 15, were killed during a Gaza demonstration the following day.
Earlier on Friday, a Palestinian injured by Israeli gunfire last week during clashes along the Gaza border died from his wounds, the Gaza Ministry of Health said.
The man was identified as Shawqi Jabr Obeid, 37, from Jabalia.
At least 32 Palestinians have been killed in October by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank, while 10 have been shot dead in Gaza border demonstrations.
