Saudi Analyst Urges Probe into Mina Crush

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A Saudi Arabian political analyst said countries that lost citizens in a September 24 crush of Hajj pilgrims near Mecca have a right to form a fact-finding committee to investigate into the tragedy.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Fouad Ibrahim, a Saudi analyst residing in London, called for transparent explanations for the incident.

On September 24, the crush of people in Mina during the Hajj rituals killed around 4,700 pilgrims, including 464 Iranians.

Ibrahim commented that the main cause of the disaster was the Al Saud’s mismanagement of the annual religious rituals.

He said all of the countries whose nationals have been killed in the incident have the right to participate in the process of an inquiry into the tragedy.

The analyst noted that Saudis are unlikely to cooperate with the investigation process, because the Riyadh government itself is responsible for the incident.
