In a Monday meeting with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani on the sidelines of the ongoing 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Jinping voiced Beijing’s readiness to develop its ties with Tehran based on mutual interests.
“Iran and China have common views on many important international and regional issues, and the Islamic Republic of Iran is a reliable partner for China,” the Chinese president further said.
In recent years, Iran and China have managed to sustain their relations at highest levels and can constantly promote their mutual cooperation to boost the welfare of both nations, he added.
Jinping also noted that China has always supported Tehran’s peaceful use of nuclear energy, adding, “The two countries can tap into the existing capacities in other fields such as road construction, railroad, and energy.”
In the meeting, Iran’s president also stressed that there are numerous capacities for Iran-China cooperation in such fields as energy, transit, development of Chabahar port in southern Iran, and participation in the construction of Silk Road.
Iran’s interaction with the world is expected to grow against a backdrop of finalization of the text of a comprehensive nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).
The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), reached on July 14, will terminate all nuclear–related sanctions imposed on Tehran after coming into force.
