UK Parliament to Vote on Launching Airstrikes on ISIL in Syria Next Month

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The British parliament will reportedly vote in October on whether to conduct airstrikes against ISIL based in Syria.

British Prime Minister David Cameron will hold a vote in the lower house of the country's parliament in early October to decide whether Britain should conduct airstrikes on ISIL militants' positions in Syria, Sputnik news cited a report by Sunday Times as saying on Sunday.

According to the article, the prime minister hopes to persuade the opposition Labour Party to back airstrikes in Syria in the vote. The proposed measure is intended as a way to resolve the problem of refugees coming to European countries from war-torn Syria, the media said.

Cameron has repeatedly insisted that he would only allow airstrikes on ISIL positions in Syria with parliamentary approval.

ISIL is an extremist group which has seized large areas in Iraq and Syria.

The United Kingdom joined the US-led coalition conducting airstrikes on ISIL positions in Iraq in September 2014.
