Iran-Turkey Cooperation Key to Regional Security: Larijani

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Speaker of Iran’s Parliament Ali Larijani hailed the collaboration between Tehran and Ankara as significant to sustainable security in the Middle East.

“Expansion of friendly ties with Turkey, as an influential Muslim state in the region, is of a great importance,” Larijani said in a Saturday meeting with Turkish Ambassador to Tehran Reza Hakan Takin.

“Sustainable security in the region is achievable through the mutual cooperation and influence of important regional states, including Iran and Turkey,” he added.

Having a “comprehensive” attitude toward regional issues from a national security point of view, and avoiding personal interests are key to the restoration of peace and stability to the region, Larijani went on to say.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian parliament speaker also invited his Turkish counterpart to pay an official visit to Tehran.

Close Iran-Turkey parliamentary ties would further reinforce mutual cooperation between the two countries in economic field as well as in their consultations on bilateral, regional, and international issues, he noted.

Takin, for his part, said that all Turkish administrations have maintained good ties with major neighbor Iran as one of their most significant priorities, and the policy would also resume in the next government.

He also hailed the close stances of the two neighboring countries in resolving the ongoing crises, urging further consultations among Iranian and Turkish officials on bilateral and regional issues.
