Venezuela's Maduro: West Seeking to Dominate Islamic States by Backing Terrorists

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro censured certain Western states for their support for terrorist groups in the Middle East region, saying that they are seeking to dominate Muslim nations by supporting these groups.

All the terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq are serving the interests of the enemies of Muslim and Arab nations, Maduro was quoted by Lebanese-based Al Mayadeen TV network as saying.

These groups, which are supported by the West, are attempting to destroy Syria and Iraq through savage acts, he stated.

The Venezuelan President further described the terrorism in the region as "new fascism", saying that the terrorist groups have nothing to do with Islam and its exalted spiritual concepts.

The Middle East, especially countries like Iraq and Syria, has been facing the growing threat of terrorism, mainly posed by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group.

The ISIL militants made swift advances in much of northern and western Iraq over the last summer, after capturing large swaths of northern Syria.

They have committed heinous crimes in the areas they control.

The terrorist group is thought to be supported by some Western countries and their allies in the region.
