MPs Discuss Expansion of Iran-Ireland Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Lawmakers from Iran and Ireland in a meeting in Tehran explored avenues for the strengthening of the two countries' relations.

Head of Iran-Ireland parliamentary friendship group Javad Heravi held a meeting with head of Ireland-Iran parliamentary group in Tehran on Monday.

Highlighting the numerous opportunities for cooperation in the political, economic and cultural fields, Heravi stressed the need for the reopening of the Irish embassy in Tehran.

The Irish parliamentarian, for his part, called for immediate measures to bolster relations with Iran in the political, trade and banking arenas.

Back in January 2014, an Irish parliamentary delegation, led by Chairman of the Irish Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade Pat Breen, paid an official visit to Iran.

Later in September, a five-strong Iranian team, headed by Heravi, visited Dublin and held meetings with a number of senior Irish lawmakers and Ireland’s minister of agriculture to study the expansion of relations between the two countries.

Iran's parliament has in recent months intensified measures to strengthen ties with parliaments of the other countries, following President Hassan Rouhani's announcement that his administration will adopt the policy of constructive interaction with the world.
