Iran, Azerbaijan Stress Closer Academic Cooperation
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Minister of Science, Researches and Technology Mohammad Farhadi and his Azeri counterpart, Ali Abbasov, underlined the importance of closer cooperation between the universities of the two neighboring countries.
During a meeting held in Tehran on Sunday, the two ministers exchanged views on ways to promote relations between the two Asian countries in the areas of science and technology.
In his remarks, Farhadi commented on mutual cooperation between some Iranian and Azeri universities, saying, “The University of Tabriz have good cooperation with (some) universities in Azerbaijan Republic and we hope that the issue will provide grounds for further cooperation among other universities of the two countries.”
Azerbaijani minister of communications and information technology, for his part, expressed the hope that during Farhadi's tenure, cooperation between the two countries would boost more than ever.
The Azeri minister is in Tehran to take part in a ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) focused on science and technology issues.
During his trip to Azerbaijan earlier last week, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Tehran and Baku enjoy different grounds for boosting their mutual cooperation.
“There are different grounds for cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Azerbaijan Republic in economic, political and cultural fields,” Zarif said.
