Iran’s First VP Starts Iraq Visit

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri on Monday morning left Tehran for the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, starting his three-day visit to the neighboring country.

Heading a high-ranking delegation including five ministers and two vice-presidents, Jahangiri will visit the Arab country at the invitation of Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.

The Iranian delegation includes Minister of Economy Ali Tayyebnia, Minister of Agriculture Mahmoud Hojjati, Minister of Industries, Mines, and Commerce Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh, Minister of Road and Urban Development Abbas Akhondi, and Minister of Health Seyed Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi.

Vice-President for Parliamentary Affairs Majid Ansari, Head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization Masoud Soltanifar, Governor of the Central Bank of Iran Valiollah Seif, Head of Iran-Iraq Joint Chamber of Commerce Yahya Al-e Eshaq, and the Head of Institute of Standards & Industrial Research of Iran Nayyereh Pirouzbakht are among other members of the delegation.

Jahangiri is slated to hold meetings with several officials including the Iraqi President Fuad Masum, Prime Minister Abadi, Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri, Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jafari, and the head of the Islamic supreme council of Iraq, Ammar al-Hakim.

The Iranian official also plans to attend Iran-Iraq High Joint Commission as well as a ceremony to sign several agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).

Jahangiri will further pay a visit to Iran’s specialized exhibition in Iraq, and meet Iranian and Iraqi businessmen as part of his three-day visit.
