TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Large-scale military exercises in Iran continued for the fourth day with the Navy and Air Force conducting operations in a huge maritime zone at the Sea of Oman.

The six-day drills in south and southeast of Iran are underway as a whole host of Navy vessels took action in the wargames zone, mainly located at the Sea of Oman.

The Sunday’s operations focus on exercising tactics to hamper the enemy’s intrusion through the naval routes.

The Navy’s ships, speed boats and heavy Tareq-class submarines conducted mine-laying operation while they enjoyed logistic support provided by the Air Force squadrons.

Mine-sweeping missions were also carried to secure sea lanes and protect merchant vessels and oil tankers in case the enemy lays naval mines in the country’s waters.

The RH minesweeping naval helicopters carried out the operation with an advanced system.

Meantime, the Iranian Air Force  (IRIAF) warplanes also supported the Navy’s vessels during the drills. The F-4 Phantom fighter jets fired a number of Maverick air-to-ground tactical missiles to demolish the afloat targets.

And the Sukhoi Su-24 fighter-bombers also fired optimized Iranian missiles at the naval targets.

The drill will run until December 31 in an area of 2.2 million square kilometers, stretching from the northern Indian Ocean (10 degrees latitude) to the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf and in the southern and southeastern Iranian provinces of Sistan and Balouchestan and Hormozgan.
