Tehran Keen to Expand Ties with Abu Dhabi: Deputy FM
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Expatriates' Affairs Hassan Qashqavi called for enhanced ties with the United Arab Emirates.
In a meeting with Anwar Gargash, UAE’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, on Thursday, Qashqavi said Iran is willing to develop relations with the UAE in all areas, especially in consular cooperation.
The Iranian diplomat referred to the good and historical relations between the two countries and underlined the need for bilateral cooperation and consultation on regional issues.
He also described the 9th meeting of Iran-UAE Joint Consular Cooperation Commission as fruitful and effective in boosting bilateral ties.
Anwar Gargash, for his part, hailed the agreements reached in the commission meeting and underscored the role of Iran in regional issues.
Co-chaired by Qashqavi and Emirati Assistant Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Jarman, the 9th meeting of Iran-UAE Joint Consular Cooperation Commission was held at the UAE foreign ministry in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the conclusion of the meeting.
The 17-clause document includes measures to simplify visa formalities, settle the residence problems of the two countries’ nationals, and enhance judicial ties on anti-narcotics and cooperation between the coast guards.
