Comprehensive Iran Nuclear Deal to Benefit Whole World: UN Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A high-ranking UN official said conclusion of the nuclear talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 – Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany - will benefit the international community.

“I hope the nuclear negotiations would yield results. The comprehensive Iran nuclear deal is beneficial for the entire international community,” UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Kenneth Eliasson said in a meeting with Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, here in Tehran on Wednesday.

The visiting UN official also called for efforts to help secure the long-awaited nuclear deal before a November 24 deadline.

Since last year, Iran and the G5+1 (alternatively known as the P5+1 or E3+3) have launched extensive talks to hammer out a comprehensive agreement to end a decade of impasse over Tehran’s peaceful nuclear energy program.

Elsewhere in his comments, Eliasson deplored an “unprecedented” growing trend in extremism and terrorism in the world, stressing that global conflicts could not be settled without international cooperation.

As regards the plans during his stay in Iran, the UN official said he will discuss with the Iranian officials the regional issues, such as the crisis in Syria and the threat posed by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group.

Eliasson paid a visit to Iraq and held talks with the Arab country’s officials before heading to Iran.
