Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for African and Middle Eastern Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian said there are plans for Zarif’s official visit to Uganda in future.

He made the comments in a meeting with Ugandan Foreign Ministry’s managing director for regional affairs on Tuesday.

The Iranian diplomat also put an emphasis on Tehran’s bilateral ties with Kampala, and said, “The two countries have great potential for the political, economic and cultural cooperation.”

Iran and Uganda can forge a stronger partnership in the regional and international arenas since both of them are members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Amir Abdollahian added.

The Ugandan diplomat, for his part, voiced the east central African country’s preparedness to enhance relations with the Islamic Republic in all fields.

Expansion of relations with African countries in all political, economic and cultural fields is top on the agenda of the Iranian foreign policy.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has repeatedly said that his government welcomes boosting relations with the African nations.
