IAEA Report Reconfirms Iran’s Commitment to Nuclear Deal
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will on Thursday night publish its report on Iran’s nuclear energy program in which it will emphasize the Islamic Republic’s commitment to a nuclear deal it signed with the six major world powers in Geneva last November.
The IAEA document makes clear that Iran is continuing to meet its commitments under the interim accord that it reached with the United States, France, Germany, Britain, China and Russia late last year which took effect in January, reported Reuters.
The monthly report by the UN nuclear watchdog confirms that Tehran has begun using some of its higher-grade enriched uranium to produce fuel.
On June 30, the IAEA had officially confirmed that since 20 January 2014, Iran had not enriched uranium above 5% U-235 at any of its declared facilities.
In his second visit to Iran in less than a year, the IAEA Chief Yukiya Amano came to Tehran on Sunday and met with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
Amano’s visit came as part of efforts to advance cooperation between the UN nuclear watchdog and Iran over Tehran's nuclear activities.
It its statement published earlier this week, the IAEA described Amano’s visit to Tehran as useful.
