Iceland Keen to Develop Trade Ties with Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iceland’s New Ambassador to Tehran Gunnar Palsson underlined his country’s willingness to enhance trade relations with Iran.

In a Thursday meeting with Valiollah Afkhami, director of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization, Palsson said there are extensive grounds for mutual cooperation.

He added that Tehran and Reykjavik can develop cooperation in areas like fishery, renewable energy and tourism.

Palsson also referred to a fishery exhibition planned to be held in Reykjavik in December 2014 and invited Iran to participate in the event.

Afkhami, for his part, highlighted Iran’s preparedness to expand trade with Iceland.

He said the two countries should recognize one another’s capacities and capabilities to enhance mutual relations.

Iceland’s new ambassador had submitted his credentials to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday.

During his meeting with the Iranian chief executive, Palsson said his country would seek closer bilateral and international ties with Iran, although the two countries are geographically far away from each other.

He also commented on the recent regional and international developments, emphasizing that Iceland will spare no effort to promote mutual cooperation with the Islamic Republic.
