Hamas Ready to Fight Long War with Israel
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas is braced for long months of fighting against the Israeli regime, a senior Hamas figure, Mahmoud al-Zahar, underlined on Friday.
Speaking to Al Aqsa satellite TV channel, Zahar said the new wave of military attacks on blockaded Gaza is an “unprecedented war” that the Israeli enemy has imposed on Palestinians.
“We are prepared for months of war with Israel," he at the same time stressed, adding that the ongoing war will only end under the conditions laid down by Hamas.
Zahar made it clear that Hamas has a “firm resolve” to implement even a broader, strategic plan to liberate the whole Palestine.
Israel has launched a new wave of military strike on the besieged Gaza Strip after tensions raged between Palestinians and Israelis following the burning alive of a Palestinian teen in East al-Quds by Zionist settlers.
16-year-old Mohammed Abu Khdeir’s death has sparked a wave of protests across the Palestinian territories. Ever since, Israel has been pounding the blockaded enclave.
The death toll from the Israeli military assaults has increased to at least 107. Medical sources reported several casualties from an Israeli missile attack on a house in southern Gaza on Friday while Israeli warplanes bombarded Deir al-Balah, leaving a number of people dead in the central city.
Israel has also mobilized 20,000 soldiers for a possible ground invasion of the Gaza Strip.
Palestinian resistance movements in Gaza have already been responding to Israel’s aggression by targeting Israeli sites deep inside the occupied Palestinian territories.
On Wednesday, a Palestinian Islamic Jihad representative in Tehran said the Israeli army is too weak to enter a long-term war against Gaza.
Speaking to Tasnim, Nasser Abu Sharif explained that Israel’s ground attack on the Gaza Strip is an unlikely possibility since the Israeli military is “very fragile and weak” for a long-term war.
