Final Nuclear Deal Needs More Realistic Approach from West: Deputy FM
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Iranian Expatriates Affairs Hassan Qashqavi said nuclear talks between Iran and world powers could reach results if there is a more realistic approach from the West.
Qashqavi said on Thursday that if Western powers abandon their excessive demands and adopt a more realistic approach, reaching an agreement is possible by July 20, which is the deadline set in Geneva last December for a final deal.
“(An extension of the Geneva Deal for six months) had been predicted in the Geneva talks but efforts are underway so that we can reach a (final) agreement in the first six-month period,” he stated.
Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, the US, Britain, China, France and Germany) on November 24, 2013, clinched an interim deal on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program in the Swiss city of Geneva.
The breakthrough agreement (the Joint Plan of Action), which came into effect on January 20, stipulates that over the course of six months, Iran and the six countries will draw up a comprehensive nuclear deal which will lead to a lifting of the whole sanctions on Iran.
Since the Geneva deal, the two sides have convened several meetings to work out a framework for an ultimate and comprehensive agreement.
Iran and the G5+1 (alternatively known as P5+1 or E3+3) started another round of high-profile nuclear talks in the Austrian capital of Vienna on Wednesday.
The negotiations are scheduled to continue until July 20.
Iran has times and again emphasized that a deal to end an “unnecessary crisis” over its peaceful nuclear activities is possible only if the sextet respects Iranian nation’s rights.
