Emirati Delegation in Iran for Trade Talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A large delegation of merchants and trade officials from the United Arab Emirates has arrived in Tehran as part of efforts to boost economic relations between UAE and Iran.

According to Tasnim dispatches, Mohamed Thani Al Rumaithi, chairman of the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry is heading the Emirati team.

This is the biggest Emirati trade delegation visiting Iran in eight years.

The group is reportedly comprised of five major groups, including oil and gas industry dealers, bankers, food industry owners, automotive traders and investment company holders.

During their stay in Tehran, the Emirati merchants and officials will hold separate meetings with the Iranian private sector owners, as well as state officials including the country’s minsters of economy and industry .

The Arab traders’ visit to Iran comes against a backdrop of a thaw in relations between Tehran and Abu Dhabi.

Back in April, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif paid a visit to the UAE to attend the 2nd meeting of Iran-UAE High Joint Economic Commission.

The volume of non-oil trade exchanges between Iran and the Persian Gulf state reached $9.637 billion during the first three quarters of the last Iranian year (ended on March 20, 2014).

Bilateral relations between Tehran and Abu Dhabi have been developing since Iranian President Hassan Rouhani took the office in August last year.
