"Representatives of various ministries and relevant bodies of Iran and Azerbaijan held their previous meeting on May 3 to prepare the ground for the ninth session of the joint economic commission between two sides," Pakayeen told the Trend News Agency.

He said that during the visit of Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev to Tehran, Iran's Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaizi was appointed as the head of the joint economic commission.

President Aliyev visited Iran on April 9 and held talks with Iranian officials on a range of issues.

"Meeting with representatives of various ministries and relevant bodies of Iran is an indication of how seriously Iran is fulfilling agreements reached during the visit of President Aliyev," Pakayeen said.

He further added that Iran is pursuing a policy of developing relations with neighboring countries, especially with Azerbaijan, and today there is an appropriate ground for taking advantages of the economic capabilities of the two countries.

The representatives of the Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Oil, Transport, Agriculture, Commerce, Industry, as well as representatives of the Central Bank and the Araz free economic zone attended the meeting.

During the meeting it was decided that representatives of all agencies submit their proposals for the expansion of economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran.

Azerbaijan and Iran have had diplomatic relations since 1918. Iran recognized Azerbaijan's independence in 1991, and diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1992.
