Iranian Navy Warships Arrive in Oman for Joint Drill

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Navy warships have docked in the Omani capital city of Muscat in a bid to hold a joint rescue and relief drill with the Omani naval forces.

The Iranian naval fleet, which had departed Iran's southern port city of Bandar Abbas on Thursday with the aim of participating in joint maritime rescue and relief exercises, arrived in Muscat's Sultan Qaboos port on Friday.

The flotilla consists of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) Alvand destroyer, Shamshir (sword) missile-launcher warship, Bushehr logistic ship, Navy’s AB212 helicopter and Safir 3 (Ambassador 3) tug from the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps.

The Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari had unveiled the plans for the drill and said that it would be held on April 7 and extend over three days.

He also said that Iran’s 30th naval fleet is planned to be deployed to Africa in the current Iranian year in order to voyage around that continent.

The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Sultanate of Oman have already staged a number of other joint maritime drills in the past to raise the level of preparedness to handle a range of naval events.
