The three top diplomats have gathered in the Turkish eastern city to convene the third such trilateral meetings, which have been held annually since 2011.
In the gathering, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, along with his Turkish and Azeri counterparts, Ahmet Davutoglu and Elmar Mammadyarov, explored avenues for the expansion of regional ties between Tehran, Ankara and Baku.
According to a statement issued by Turkey’s ministry of foreign affairs, the tripartite meetings among foreign ministers of Iran, Turkey and Azerbaijan have so far had a significant impact on the regional welfare, stability and security.
The first such trilateral gathering was held in the northwestern Iranian city of Orumiyeh, in April 2011.
A second meeting was held in the Azeri city of Nakhichevan in March 2012 in order to discuss tripartite cooperation between the neighboring countries in the fields of energy, transportation and trade as well as a joint campaign against terrorism, smuggling and organized crime.
