Iran, Oman Urges Collective Effort to Restore Regional Peace

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran and Oman in a joint statement on Thursday underlined the need for restoration of peace and security in the region through collective cooperation of all regional states.

The statement was issued at the end of the visit of President Hassan Rouhani to Muscat where he discussed major bilateral, regional and international issues in separate meetings with Sultan Qaboos and Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah as well as other senior officials of the country.

President Rouhani arrived in Tehran Thursday after a two-day official visit to Oman and was welcomed by Ali Akbar Velayati, adviser to Supreme Leader for international affairs, First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri, Government spokesman Mohammad Baqer Nobakht and Justice Minister Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi.

According to the joint statement issued by Iran and Oman, President Rouhani and Sultan Qaboosˈ meeting in Muscat was held in a friendly atmosphere while the two were stressed the need to use existing capacities to foster bilateral cooperation in the economic, cultural, political and security fields, President’s official website reported.

President Rouhani and Sultan Qaboos also stressed the need for implementation of previously made agreement by Tehran and Muscat.
They also stressed the need for making further efforts to bring about sustainable peace and security to the region and boost the spirit of moderation and rationalism in the region.

The two officials also called for global fight against extremism and violence.

Referring to the Tehranˈs nuclear talks with the Group 5+1, the statement stressed the need for continuation of the negotiations until reaching a final agreement.

It was also added in the statement that President Rouhani officially invited Sultan Qaboos to pay a visit to Iran and the Omani king welcomed the invitation.
