Rouhani’s Oman Mission: More Peace, Prosperity
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is scheduled to arrive in Oman on Wednesday on a two-day official visit, which would mark his first trip to a Persian Gulf state since assuming office in August 2013.
"President Rouhani will arrive in Muscat before noon on Wednesday, and talks will begin shortly after the official welcoming ceremony," Iranian Ambassador Ali Akbar Sibeveih told the Times of Oman on Monday.
Iran’s ministers of foreign affairs, oil, industry and trade, road and transportation, and labor, besides the vice-president and head of the cultural, handicrafts and tourism organization, deputy health minister, and a number of other senior officials would be accompanying the Iranian president, the ambassador said.
Four or five agreements are expected to be signed, two of which would be on transportation and technical training, added Sibeveih.
"Apart from bilateral relations, regional issues, including the crisis in Syria, will be discussed. This trip will contribute to the promotion of peace and stability in the region and will help strengthen the exemplary relations between the two friendly countries," the Iranian ambassador said.
He noted that the volume of annual trade between Iran and Oman would reach $1 billion by the end of the Iranian calendar year (March 20) and bilateral investments are expected to hit $10 billion by the end of 2014.
"During this trip, various ways to enhance cooperation in the economic and trade sectors will be explored," the ambassador said, adding that Iran has 10 major projects underway in Oman.
While most of them are in Oman’s Duqm region, some other projects would be implemented in Sohar, Salalah, and Dhofar regions, he noted.
"Omani investors are also investing in a number of Iranian cities, including Chabahar, Yazd, Tehran, and Kish Island," he said.
