Delegations from Uganda, Senegal and Chad are in Tehran and those expected from other Muslim countries will arrive here in the coming days.
The ninth meeting of the Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union will be officially launched in a ceremony on February 18, where Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani is scheduled to be the keynote speaker.
Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi told Tasnim on February 10 that 44 countries have announced preparedness to attend the IIPU Conference.
According to the senior lawmaker, 25 parliament speakers have confirmed their participation at the event in Tehran.
Boroujerdi added that the participation of more than 400 parliamentarians from various world countries would be unprecedented compared with the past 15 years since the establishment of the IIPU.
The IIPU was established in 1999 based on an initiative by Iran. It seeks to strengthen the parliamentary cooperation among the Islamic countries in order to solve the challenges facing the Islamic world.
