Suicide Blast Hits Hezbollah Area in Lebanon
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - An explosives-laden vehicle exploded in eastern Lebanon early Tuesday, injuring both civilians and members of Lebanese Hezbollah movement.
The National News Agency (NNA) reported that Tuesday’s blast near the remote village of Sbouba in the Baalbek region "was caused by a suicide bomber".
Meantime, security sources told The Daily Star that an explosives-laden vehicle exploded early Tuesday killing its driver and wounding two members from Hezbollah.
The sources said Hezbollah members in a van were attempting to intercept the vehicle when it exploded in Sbouba, where the group maintains a military camp. There was an exchange of gunfire, they said.
The explosives-laden vehicle was likely detonated remotely as their pursuers approached, the sources said. They earlier said the vehicle may have been occupied by a suicide bomber.
TV footage showed at least four vehicles, some in flames, and debris strewn across the road.
In a brief statement, the Lebanese Army said that a Grand Cherokee blew up on the road to Sbouba, northwest of Baalbek, at 2:50am, damaging a number of vehicles. The military has launched a probe.
