Iran, Syria Coordinate Anti-Terrorism Efforts
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The president of Syria and the Iranian defense minister weighed plans for closer cooperation between the two countries in the fight against terrorism.
Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Sunday.
They discussed a range of topics in the meeting, such as issues related to defense and security in the region.
Assad and Nasirzadeh also weighed plans to enhance cooperation between the two countries to confront terrorism in a way that would serve the stability and security of the entire region, SANA reported.
The Syrian president emphasized that eliminating terrorism is a regional and international responsibility since its dangers threaten peoples of the whole world.
The Iranian defense minister has visited Damascus at the official invitation of his Syrian counterpart.
Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Damascus on Saturday evening, the Iranian defense minister highlighted Syria’s place in Iran’s foreign policy.
Hailing Syria’s valuable experiences in the war on terrorism, General Aziz Nasirzadeh described Syria as a main pillar of the resistance axis.
